How It Works

1

Enter your shift times

Type the time you clocked in and the time you clocked out using the start and end fields.

2

Add break time

Enter any unpaid break in minutes so it is deducted from the total. Leave it at zero if there was no break.

3

Read hours and pay

See the hours worked as a decimal and as hours and minutes. Add an hourly rate to estimate your gross pay for the shift.

An hours calculator turns clock-in and clock-out times into the hours you actually worked, taking care of the fiddly parts: subtracting unpaid breaks and rolling over correctly when a shift crosses midnight. It is the quickest way to fill in a timesheet or check that your hours add up.

Enter your start and end times, the length of any unpaid break, and — optionally — your hourly rate. The calculator returns your net hours both as a decimal and in hours and minutes, shows how much break time was removed, and estimates your gross pay for the shift so you can sanity-check a paycheck before payday.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the calculator handle an overnight shift?

If the end time is the same as or earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes you finished the next day and adds 24 hours. So a shift that runs from 22:00 to 06:00 is correctly counted as 8 hours before any break is removed.

How is the break deducted?

The break is entered in minutes and converted to hours, then subtracted from the gross span between clock-in and clock-out. The result is your net paid hours, and it is never allowed to fall below zero.

How is gross pay calculated?

Gross pay is simply your net hours worked multiplied by the hourly rate you enter. It is a before-tax estimate and does not include overtime multipliers, deductions or withholdings.

What is the difference between decimal hours and hours and minutes?

Decimal hours express the total as one number, such as 7.5, which payroll systems use. Hours and minutes show the same total in clock form, such as 7 h 30 m, which is easier to read at a glance. The calculator shows both.
