How It Works
Enter the distance
Type how far you ran or plan to run and choose whether the distance is in kilometres or miles.
Enter your time
Add the total time it took, split into hours, minutes and seconds.
See your pace
Instantly read your pace per kilometre and per mile, plus your average speed in km/h and mph.
Pace is the cornerstone metric for runners. Knowing your pace lets you plan even-effort races, gauge training intensity and compare runs across different distances. Most runners track pace in minutes and seconds per kilometre or per mile, while speed in km/h or mph is more common on treadmills and for cycling.
This pace calculator converts any distance-and-time combination into pace and speed instantly, in both metric and imperial units. The results are general estimates for planning and tracking your training and are not medical advice — listen to your body and build mileage gradually.
Frequently Asked Questions
How is running pace calculated?
Pace is your total time divided by the distance covered. The calculator converts your hours, minutes and seconds into total seconds, divides by the distance in kilometres (or miles) and then formats the result as minutes and seconds per unit — for example 5:30 per kilometre.
What is the difference between pace and speed?
Pace measures time per unit of distance (such as minutes per kilometre) and is lower when you are faster. Speed measures distance per unit of time (such as kilometres per hour) and is higher when you are faster. This tool shows both so you can use whichever you prefer.
How do I convert between min/km and min/mile?
One mile equals about 1.609 kilometres, so a mile pace is roughly 1.609 times your per-kilometre pace. The calculator does this conversion automatically, so you always see both your per-kilometre and per-mile pace from a single entry.
Can I use this to plan a race pace?
Yes. Enter your goal race distance and the finish time you are aiming for, and the calculator shows the pace you need to hold. You can adjust the time until the pace looks realistic for your training and target.
